2.Project Summary: B. Objectives

This project focuses on the following issues/targets:

- Development of a 6-wavelength lidar system for monitoring of the aerosol and cloud properties in the troposphere,
- Development of a specialized software for the acquisition and analysis of 6 different lidar signals in real time,
- Use of a special software code for the retrieval of the aerosol microphysical and chemical parameters (ie. refractive index, extinction and backscatter coefficient, single scattering albedo, volume concentration, water content and chemical composition) in the troposphere,
- Establishment of a central quantitative and statistically significant database with aerosol microphysical parameters data over Athens, Greece,
- Calibration of the satellite-borne CALIPSO lidar system in the VIS-NIR spectral region over Athens.
- Provision of a fundamental understanding on the physico-chemical properties of the
aerosols over Athens, Greece.
