Two PhD Fellowships in QCD and Collider Physics at the University of Oxford The Particle Theory group of the University of Oxford invites applications for two D.Phil. (Ph.D.) fellowships starting in Fall 2019, funded by the PanScales ERC Advanced Grant and the hipQCD ERC Starting Grant. One of the successful applicants will join the PanScales team of Gavin Salam, whose goal is to deepen our understanding, and to improve, the core, parton shower, component of general purpose Monte Carlo event generators, the most widely used theoretical tools in particle physics. The other one will join the hipQCD team of Fabrizio Caola, whose goal is to develop innovative techniques for higher order QCD calculation and apply them to precision collider phenomenology in the Higgs sector and beyond. The successful applicants will be fully enrolled in the Ph.D. programme in Theoretical Physics at the University of Oxford. Interested candidates should apply through the normal procedure for a Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics at the University of Oxford as described here https://www.ox.ac.uk/admissions/graduate/courses/dphil-theoretical-physics?wssl=1 and indicate as part of the application that they wish to be considered for the PanScales ERC-funded doctoral position with Gavin Salam and/or the hipQCD ERC-funded position with Fabrizio Caola. The set of documents required for the application comprises official transcripts, a CV and a research proposal. The candidates should also indicate the contact details of three referees who will be asked to submit a letter of recommendation. Applications should be completed, and reference letters uploaded on the Oxford website, before Friday Jan. 25th noon (UK time). Interested candidates are welcome to contact Gavin Salam (gavin.salam@physics.ox.ac.uk ) and/or Fabrizio Caola (fabrizio.caola@physics.ox.ac.uk ) for further details and enquiries.
