The N3PDF group led by Stefano Forte at Milan University (Italy) invites applications for a PhD fellowship, funded by the N3PDF ERC Advanced Grant. The successful applicant will be enrolled in the PhD school at Milan university in the beginning of the academic year 2019-2020 and will be expected to graduate within three years having satisfied the necessary requirements (http://phd.fisica.unimi.it/ ). The PhD fellowship will be fully funded, with a living allowance added to the standard fellowship. In addition, he/she will be provided with administrative and logistic support and he/she will be endowed with a very generous travel allowance supporting his/her participation in schools, conferences and collaboration meetings and scientific exchanges. The successful applicant will join the N3PDF team, which currently includes an assistant professor (tenure track), two postdocs, two PhD Students, together with two more post-docs being recruited now. The N3PDF project (see http://n3pdf.mi.infn.it ) aims at the development of innovative theoretical and phenomenological results and techniques in perturbative QCD, machine learning, statistical modeling and inference, with the determination of parton distributions in mind as a non-exclusive goal. The team will be in close contact with the NNPDF collaboration, currently counting 16 members at 9 institutions in four European countries (see http://nnpdf.mi.infn.it ), and participate in biannual collaboration meetings and frequent exchange programs. The PhD project will be focused on machine learning and QCD resummation. The PhD student will be expected to interact with the rest of the team and be involved in all its scientific aspects. Candidates expecting to complete a Master degree in Physics or related disciplines are encouraged to apply.
